New York City Zoning Resolution Section 139-13: Gowanus Retail and Entertainment Uses.
In the Gowanus neighborhood, "retail and entertainment uses" means the kinds of stores and entertainment in Use Groups VI or VIII — but not the commercial and manufacturing uses listed elsewhere. This label matters for one reason: it sets how much of a building's floor area these uses can occupy under the area's basic density rules (floor area ratio = building size relative to lot size).
Section 139-13 - Gowanus Retail and Entertainment Uses
For the purposes of applying the basic floor area ratio regulations of Section 139-21 , Gowanus retail and entertainment uses shall be uses listed under Use Groups VI or VIII, other than those included in referenced commercial and manufacturing uses .
