Permitted Projection or Height of Signs
New York City Zoning Resolution · Last amended Dec 15, 1961
New York City Zoning Resolution Section 32-65: Permitted Projection or Height of Signs. Applies to 8 zoning districts. Cited in 1 BSA/CPC cases.
In commercial districts C1 through C8, this section governs signs — specifically how far they can stick out over the street or sidewalk and how high off the ground they can go. Every permitted sign in these zones must follow the projection and height limits laid out here. Bottom line: signs are allowed, but their reach outward and their height are both capped by these rules.
