The Frederick Douglass Memorial Park designation was presented, with LPC describing it as a historically significant cemetery established for and by African Americans in 1935 that has served the community with the same mission for nearly a century.

Opposition & support

At the LPC public hearing on May 21, the commission received support from five speakers (incl. two board representatives, Councilmember Hanks, the New York Landmarks Conservancy, and the Historic Districts Council); no one spoke in opposition.
